Mobile-Friendly is Now Business Essential
Being Mobile – Friendly is Now more Important Than Ever
New Google “Mobile Friendly” Algorithm to Reward Sites
Google's mobile ranking algorithm will include mobile-friendly usability factors and app indexing. Mobile-friendly sites are now more important than ever.
Let’s face it: if you have any site traffic at all, some of it is bound to be coming from mobile devices. And the number of visits coming from those devices (like smart phones, pads, and tablets) is just going to keep increasing. So if your site isn’t optimized for mobile, you’re not looking your best to more and more of your visitors. It’s sad but true, my friend.
Google’s mobile ranking factors will not only label your site as mobile-friendly, but will also use that to determine if your site should rank higher in the search results. Google said this algorithmic change will have a “significant impact” in the mobile search results, impacting all languages worldwide.
Google also said “users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.” Google is giving website owners a heads up so they can be proactive and prepare for the upcoming changes on April 21, 2015 instead of just making the changes immediately .
Mobile Apps Google Indexes Will Rank Better In Mobile Search
Google further said that as of February 2015, apps that are indexed by Google through App Indexing will begin to rank better in mobile search. Google said this only will work for signed-in users who have the app installed on their mobile devices, which means only Android apps currently. Google explained this “may now surface content from indexed apps more prominently in search.”
A Mobile-Friendly Website Is Important
From a usability perspective, to have or to make the decision to convert your website into a mobile-friendly website really is a no-brainer. Users are increasingly visiting your website from a variety of different smartphones, tablets, and other devices—and it only makes good common sense to accommodate and leverage this rapidly growing group of visitors.
Erik Qualman—digital leadership speaker, entrepreneur, and author— has recently predicted that 2015 is the year that companies will start to think mobile-first. He noted that with the gradual increase of traffic coming to websites from mobile devices, companies are going to have to start thinking about mobility first as a way to better reach their target audience(s). Based on a recent announcement from Google, having a mobile-friendly website will very soon be critical in today’s digital marketing landscape.
